Happy that a team of artists/activists have revved up a roadside art action and a grand car procession — and by uniting it all with the timely causes and messages of Black Lives Matter, the census and get out the vote. Very proud to be a part of this amazing and powerful SGV community.


2018 Rembrandt to Marc to Back Again

On the search to discover a new constellation (Mickey Mouse), a new meaning (Marc's moustache), Marc set about to erase with an electric eraser Rembrandt’s masterpiece self-portrait.

As both artist and subject De Ansar searches for the optical phenomena of reality. Inspired by Alberto Giacometti's portrait of James Lord, De Ansar affirms," The form is always in proportion to the obsession." And then, there are (nothing more and nothing less than) ants.

The peripatetic potato originated in the Andean Highlands some 8,000 years ago. On his ranch in Great Falls, MT Grandpa Bouska taught the fundamental importance of growing potatoes. In California, the thrill of the dig continues.

2015 Livin' and Lovin' the Rainbow
On Christmas Eve 2015 Marc DeAnsar descended the stairs in San Francisco's City Hall in celebration of the US Supreme Court ruling that all people, regardless of gender, have a fundamental right to marry.

The rotunda was filled with merry makers enjoying the auspicious occasion.

Marc was thrilled to be to adding to the fun.

Thanks to the Mutter Museum in Philadelphia for appreciating all manor 
of anatomical anomalies and providing the co-joined twins cookie cutter.

2013 The Uffizi and the Walk of Fame
Since 1587 copies of the Giovio Portraits have been displayed in the First Corridor of the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy. 


In 2013, the Uffizi Four  — Marc DeAnsar in the style of Rembrandt, Holbein, El Greco and Hals — take their place in the public archive of literary figures, rulers, statesmen and other dignitaries. This short video is a realization of Don Draper's advice, "If you don't like what's being said, change the conversation." and Marc DeAnsar's council, "If you don't like what's on the wall, change the picture." 



In this update Rembrandt has the final word, "A painting is finished when an artist says it is finished."

2012 Surface Tension - Floating the Needle 

In a re-enactment of an ages-old kitchen science experiment, Richard and Judith make a competitive sport out of who can float a needle on a martini, then with glass in hand, circumnavigate the kitchen counter island.

2010 Trilobite Heights
Marc DeAnsar traveled to the Trilobite Wilderness Area in Southern California to fulfill his life long dream of finding a trilobite in the wild. And he does! Sisyphus helps show the way.

In a live XO Channel report Marc DeAnsar finds fame at Falkirk Cultural Center when one of his self-portraits is exhibited. A crowd gathers to witness his unveiling and applaud his 00:00:00 OF FAME.




1997 TIC-TAC-TOE is evidence of DeAnsar's astute skills not only as a cunning strategist, but also as a sensitive renderer of line and form. His infamous pairing "Mona, Marcel and Me" adds to the gestural statement of Duchamp's mustache on DaVinci's masterpiece.

1996 Stares Stairs
"Stares Stairs" explores the philosophical implications of the portrait installation with an enactment of Duchamp's painting "Nude Descending the Staircase." DeAnsar considers the difficulty in creating a singular image to define and depict an identity.
